Houston lands commitment from 2027 safety Tavon Bolden
Recruit chooses Cougars over Arizona State following official campus visit

The University of Houston has secured a verbal commitment from 2027 safety prospect Tavon Bolden, selecting him over Arizona State. The decision follows an official visit to the campus, with the recruit indicating that the programme’s environment and relationships with coaching staff were the primary drivers of his choice.

Bolden, a standout from Atascocita High School in Humble, Texas, announced his selection shortly after concluding his visit. In statements reported by Rivals, he highlighted the team’s internal culture and the sense of community within the squad as key elements that influenced his decision to join the Cougars.

The recruit cited positive interactions with head coach Willie Fritz and defensive backs position coach PJ Hall as significant factors. Bolden noted that his multiple visits throughout the spring, culminating in the most recent weekend, allowed him to assess the coaching philosophy and the bond between the staff and players.

Expressing enthusiasm for his potential role within the team, Bolden indicated excitement about the opportunity to play early and demonstrate his abilities during the upcoming spring season. He stated that the defensive scheme aligned well with his skills and that he felt a strong connection with the existing roster.

The commitment marks another addition to Houston’s recruiting efforts, with the programme actively pursuing talent for the 2027 class. As the commitment remains verbal, the recruitment process is not yet finalised, with no indication that a National Letter of Intent has been signed.
