New footage reveals Charlize Theron as Circe and Robert Pattinson as Antinous ahead of the July 2026 release

Universal Pictures has released a new two-and-a-half-minute trailer for Christopher Nolan's forthcoming adaptation of Homer's The Odyssey. The film is scheduled for a theatrical release on 17 July 2026. This latest promotional material provides the first visual appearance of Charlize Theron in the role of Circe and marks the debut of Robert Pattinson as Antinous.

The trailer features scenes depicting Odysseus and his men battling the cannibalistic Laestrygonians and navigating the treacherous whirlpool Charybdis. Viewers are also shown visuals of the Cyclops and a brief appearance of Penelope warding off suitors. The footage highlights the conflict between Penelope and Antinous, who is portrayed as intent on usurping Odysseus' position.

The full cast for the production includes Matt Damon as Odysseus, Anne Hathaway as Penelope, and Tom Holland as Telemachus. Zendaya plays Athena, while Lupita Nyong'o appears in an undisclosed role. Other actors featured in the project include Jon Bernthal as the Spartan king Menelaus, Benny Safdie as Agamemnon, and Mia Goth as Melantho.

Christopher Nolan previously compared Homer's epics to modern superhero narratives, noting that comic book culture draws directly from these ancient stories. During a recent appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, the director stated that nobody knows if Homer was a real person, likening the author to the George Lucas of his time.

Promotional activity for the film has been steady since a teaser was released in July 2025. A full-length trailer and a six-minute IMAX flashback sequence depicting the Trojan Horse were shown in December 2025. A sneak peek featuring Travis Scott and others aired in January 2026, leading into this current release.

Earlier promotional stills had drawn criticism from historical purists regarding Matt Damon's costume choices, specifically a Corinthian helmet with a red plume. The new trailer aims to address these concerns by focusing on the epic scope of the journey home after the Trojan War.
