Zion Suzuki back on the menu as United prepare summer offer
INEOS-led overhaul sees Onana and Bayindir exit plans take shape

Manchester United are preparing a formal summer offer for Parma goalkeeper Zion Suzuki, marking a strategic shift in the club’s approach to its goalkeeping department. The move is part of a broader restructuring plan under INEOS, which aims to offload Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir while establishing a new hierarchy between the posts.

The 23-year-old Japanese international has emerged as a primary target after helping Parma avoid relegation with six clean sheets. According to Gazzetta dello Sport, United have re-entered the race for the shot-stopper, who was previously linked with a move to Old Trafford two years ago before choosing to join Sint-Truiden VV. Suzuki’s development at Parma has been noted for significant improvements in ball-playing ability, a trait that has attracted interest from Galatasaray, Napoli, West Ham, and Chelsea.

Suzuki’s current market value stands at €20 million, a figure that could rise significantly if he performs well at the upcoming World Cup in the United States. Parma are reportedly open to selling to an English club, citing the recent profitable transfer of Giovanni Leoni to Liverpool as a precedent for such a deal. This preference aligns with United’s need to generate pure profit to fund further reinforcements in midfield, defence, and attack.

The recruitment of Suzuki coincides with the planned departure of the current senior goalkeepers. Andre Onana, widely regarded by some as one of the club’s least successful signings, faces a permanent exit, though a loan to Trabzonspor remains a possibility. Altay Bayindir, whose early-season struggles led to the acquisition of Senne Lammens, is expected to return to Turkey. Lammens has since been established as the first-choice goalkeeper, a decision credited to INEOS’s intervention.

While veteran Tom Heaton is expected to remain at the club, he is unlikely to serve as the primary backup. Radek Vitek, who returned from a successful loan spell, is a candidate for the second-string role, though the club may opt for a sale to bolster the transfer budget. The focus now shifts to securing Suzuki amidst intense competition, as United seek to stabilise their defensive structure for the coming season.
