Alex Scott: Man United ramp up pursuit of Bournemouth maestro
INEOS view 22-year-old as long-term investment amid Casemiro exit

Manchester United are intensifying their recruitment drive for the summer transfer window, with reports indicating a significant escalation in their pursuit of AFC Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott. The club is seeking to address a structural deficit in the centre of the park, aiming to replace Casemiro and add necessary depth to the squad. Scott, a 22-year-old who has been integral to Andoni Iraola’s side, is viewed as a potential long-term rotation partner for Kobbie Mainoo.

The decision to let Casemiro depart follows an INEOS strategy to manage wage structures, with the club opting against triggering a one-year extension for the Brazilian’s contract, which remains the most expensive at Old Trafford. United are now in the market for at least two midfielders, or three if Manuel Ugarte is sold. While Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson and Real Madrid’s Aurélien Tchouaméni are considered primary targets for a direct successor, Scott is being targeted as an all-action No.8 option.

Financial viability has been a key focus of recent discussions. Reports indicate that talks have been held to assess the financial demands of a move, with a valuation of approximately £50 million suggested. The Peoples Person reported that a secret transfer meeting was held with Bournemouth officials last week to gauge the club’s position. The Athletic’s Laurie Whitwell noted that Scott is liked by INEOS and seen as a good long-term investment that could be a mainstay in United’s midfield for the next decade.

Scott’s profile has been bolstered by his performances in a Bournemouth side that has qualified for Europe for the first time in the club’s 127-year history. His ability to combine physicality with technique has drawn praise from United coach Michael Carrick, who is understood to be a long-time admirer following Scott’s time at Bristol City. Scott also impressed England manager Thomas Tuchel during a call-up to the national squad in November.

Competing interest from Chelsea and Liverpool raises the prospect of a bidding war for the Guernsey-born player. United have also been linked with several of Scott’s teammates, including Marcos Senesi, Tyler Adams, Marcus Tavernier, and Eli Junior Kroupi. However, if a bidding war erupts, the financial landscape could shift rapidly, potentially making a well-rounded alternative to Mainoo less appealing for decision-makers at M16.
