More games should be on rails (literally)
Developer Undercoders launches Denshattack! on Nintendo Switch 2, PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S

Undercoders has released Denshattack!, a high-speed action game that combines on-rails train traversal with skateboarding-inspired stunt mechanics. The title is now available on Nintendo Switch 2, PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. The game places players in control of a train moving through a bright, stylised version of Japan, where the primary objective involves performing tricks rather than traditional rail simulation.

The gameplay is described as a supercharged version of arcade skateboarding titles, requiring players to grind, flip, and spin while navigating ten scripted worlds. Each level lasts approximately two minutes and features tightly orchestrated sequences. As players progress, they unlock additional abilities such as riding graffiti-covered walls, looping through tunnels, catching wind currents, and driving upside down.

A core mechanic involves filling an energy bar by scoring points during standard play. Once full, this triggers a "magical rainbow track" mode, which unfurls a special path for the player to ride. The experience is supported by an upbeat soundtrack and a results screen that grades performance based on points, speed, collectibles, and optional challenges known as "dares."

The release follows a recent industry trend of successful on-rails games, drawing comparisons to Nintendo’s Star Fox remake for its reliance on scripted, action-packed levels. The Verge noted that the game’s design allows developers to carefully plot out sequences, letting players focus on reacting to obstacles and executing tricks rather than managing navigation.

While the game features a lightweight narrative, the focus remains on the level design. The title includes adjustable difficulty settings and generous checkpoints to mitigate the challenge of high-speed reactions. Despite some noted repetition in level structure across regions, the developer has positioned Denshattack! as a fast-paced arcade experience for fans of the genre.
