Mixed martial arts competitor known as “Da Spyda Killa” passes away; cause of death undisclosed

Jay Silva, a mixed martial arts veteran who competed in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) and other major promotions, has died at the age of 45. Fame MMA, the organisation for which Silva fought most recently, announced his passing via social media on Monday, 1 June 2026. The specific cause of death has not been disclosed.

Silva’s professional career began in 2008 and spanned 27 bouts, resulting in a record of 12 wins, 14 losses, and one draw. He competed in the UFC between 2009 and 2010, where he faced opponents including C.B. Dollaway and Chris Leben, losing both encounters via unanimous decision.

Following his tenure in the UFC, Silva continued to compete for other organisations, including Bellator MMA. He also challenged for the middleweight title in the Polish promotion KSW. During this period, he faced notable fighters such as Hector Lombard, Kendall Grove, Sam Alvey, and Mariusz Pudzianowski.

Silva’s final bout took place on 5 April 2025 under the Fame MMA banner. He lost to Denis Labryga via unanimous decision. The organisation issued a tribute on social media, stating that Silva brought professionalism and positive emotions to the sport and would remain part of the federation’s history.

KSW also issued a separate statement on Monday, sending condolences to Silva’s family and friends. The promotion described him as a former fighter and middleweight title challenger. Tributes from both organisations highlight the recognition of his contributions to mixed martial arts.
