UFC fighters to gather at Lincoln Memorial amid escalating tensions ahead of Freedom 250
The Ultimate Fighting Championship has scheduled a high-profile press conference for Friday evening at the Lincoln Memorial, bringing together several key athletes from the upcoming Independence Day card as personal and professional rivalries intensify.

Athletes competing on the UFC Freedom 250 card, including Ilia Topuria, Justin Gaethje, Alex Pereira, and Josh Hokit, are set to attend a pre-fight press conference at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C., on Friday, June 12. The event, scheduled to commence at 8:15 p.m. ET, will be broadcast live via Paramount+ and the official UFC YouTube channel.
The gathering follows a period of heightened friction between the lightweight title contenders. Topuria and Gaethje are scheduled to meet in a lightweight title unification bout, but their promotional cycle has been marred by comments regarding Topuria’s family. Topuria told CBS Sports that he would not remain silent in the face of disrespect, stating that Gaethje’s team had crossed the line first. This press conference marks the first time the two fighters will address each other in person since the tensions escalated.
Compounding the atmosphere is a physical altercation involving Josh Hokit and Topuria during earlier promotional events. Hokit was physically removed from a previous press conference after making remarks about Pereira’s mother. Pereira has refused to acknowledge Hokit, while Topuria allegedly attempted to confront Hokit by hurling a water bottle at him during earlier appearances.
Despite these interpersonal conflicts, the event is positioned as a significant moment for the organisation. UFC Freedom 250 is part of the UFC’s Independence Day celebrations, with the main card hosted by President Donald Trump on the White House South Lawn. The card also features a bout for the interim heavyweight title between Alex Pereira and Ciryl Gane.
The press conference serves as a final promotional stop before the main event. Viewers wishing to watch the proceedings can tune in to Paramount+ or the UFC’s official YouTube channel. The event is sponsored by Monster Energy, although top-tier stars such as Jon Jones and Conor McGregor are absent from the card.
