UFC Analyst Dustin Poirier Seeks Treatment Following Public Intoxication Arrest
Dustin Poirier, who retired in 2025, was booked and released on bond after a combative encounter at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.

Retired UFC fighter and current broadcaster Dustin Poirier has publicly acknowledged his struggle with alcoholism following his arrest for public intoxication on June 21. The 37-year-old former interim lightweight champion was detained at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport after becoming combative with staff and officers during an incident involving Delta Flight 1295.
Poirier was removed from the aircraft after being denied boarding, leading to a confrontation captured on police bodycam footage. The video, which subsequently went viral on social media, shows the fighter being belligerent and aggressive toward Delta staff and law enforcement. Officers noted they recognised Poirier from his fighting career and called for backup as the situation escalated, though he was taken into custody without physical struggle.
Following his release from Clayton County Jail on bond within hours, Poirier issued a statement on Instagram addressing the incident. He apologised for his behaviour, took full responsibility for the situation, and stated he is "at the point where I need some help." The fighter cited the impact of alcoholism on his family, specifically noting that he refuses to let the issue ruin his life in the same way it affected his father’s.
Poirier, who retired in 2025 after a decision loss to Max Holloway at UFC 318, currently works as an analyst for the UFC on Paramount+. There are no indications that he will lose his broadcasting role, although it is expected he may take time away from the airwaves to focus on his recovery. The fighter who defeated him, Max Holloway, has since lined up a marquee rematch.
The response from the sporting community has been largely supportive, with many peers and fans framing his public request for assistance as a significant first step. While fan reactions have varied, the prevailing tone among current fighters has been one of concern and encouragement, recognising Poirier as one of the most respected figures in the sport’s history.
