Tyson Foods hands CEO role to director
Former Procter & Gamble executive joins board after a decade of service

Tyson Foods has appointed board member Jeff Schomburger as its new chief executive, effective 4 October. The move marks a significant leadership transition for the US food giant, with Schomburger succeeding Donnie King, who has served as CEO since 2021. King will remain on the company’s board following his departure from the chief executive role.

Schomburger, a former executive at Procter & Gamble, brings extensive experience from the fast-moving consumer goods sector. According to his LinkedIn profile, he worked at P&G from 1984 to 2019, rising from a sales representative to the role of global sales officer in 2015. His appointment follows a decade of service on the Tyson board, during which he has acted as the lead independent director and served on the compensation and audit committees.

Chairman John H. Tyson expressed confidence in Schomburger’s ability to guide the company forward. “The board and I are confident in Jeff Schomburger’s ability to lead Tyson Foods into its next chapter of growth,” Tyson said. He noted that Schomburger’s experience would help accelerate strategic priorities and unlock new ways to win with customers and consumers, a key focus of the company’s growth strategy.

In a statement, Schomburger outlined his initial priorities, citing plans to strengthen iconic brands with superior products and capitalise on emerging opportunities through artificial intelligence acceleration. “I’m energised by the opportunity to strengthen our iconic brands... and continue to win with customers and consumers,” he said.

King’s departure concludes a long tenure at the company, where he spent more than four decades before being promoted from chief operating officer to CEO in 2021. Chairman Tyson acknowledged King’s impact, stating, “Donnie King’s long tenure at Tyson Foods, including his leadership as CEO, has strengthened our business and shaped our culture.” The original report was created and published by Just Food, a brand owned by GlobalData.
