US President Donald Trump has questioned the Dallas Mavericks’ decision to trade Luka Dončić to the Los Angeles Lakers, revisiting the contentious deal during remarks at the GOP midterm convention in Dallas.
Speaking at the American Airlines Center, the Mavericks’ home venue, Trump said he did not understand the February 2025 trade. “Maybe we can redo that trade? I redo deals all the time,” he said.
The reported return for Dončić included Max Christie and Anthony Davis. Davis is no longer with the Mavericks, according to Yahoo Sports, which reported Trump’s comments.
Trump’s remarks were framed as a joke rather than an actual proposal to reverse the trade. The Mavericks had not responded to Yahoo Sports’ request for comment as of Thursday morning.
