Marvel's retro-inspired beat-em-up is getting two more playable superheroes
First downloadable content pack for retro beat-em-up now live across all platforms

Tribute Games has released the first downloadable content for Marvel Cosmic Invasion, adding X-Men leader Cyclops and Fantastic Four member The Thing as playable characters. The update is available immediately across all platforms for $3.99, expanding the roster of the retro-inspired 2D side-scrolling beat-em-up.

The addition of The Thing introduces a tank-heavy, grappling-focused playstyle to the game. While the character retains significant mobility through map-bouncing mechanics, his primary role is designed to absorb damage and control space. This complements the existing squad, allowing players to utilise his durability in conjunction with faster characters.

Cyclops enters the arena with a focus on ranged engagement, utilising kinetic optic blasts to strike enemies from a distance. The developer notes that the character was among the most requested by fans, a claim attributed directly to Tribute Games. His kit includes diagonal shots capable of countering airborne opponents, providing tactical depth to the game’s combat system.

These new additions integrate directly into Marvel Cosmic Invasion’s tag-team combo system. Players can now pair Cyclops and The Thing with existing heroes such as Captain America, Spider-Man, and Phoenix. This expansion allows for more varied link-up combos, building upon the core mechanics that have driven the game’s appeal since its launch.

The release follows a 'Very Positive' reception on Steam since the game’s initial debut in December. The narrative premise sees the all-star cast combating the villain Annihilus, who seeks to conquer the universe. The DLC serves as the first major content update to the title, which has maintained steady engagement through its retro aesthetic and accessible gameplay.

Tribute Games has confirmed that a second DLC is currently in development and scheduled for release in the autumn. This future update will introduce a new game mode alongside additional playable characters, though specific details regarding the new mode or the identity of the next characters remain undisclosed at this time.
