Toys for Bob Announces Spyro: A Realm Beyond for 2027 Release
Developer aims to blend ground and aerial exploration with original voice actor Tom Kenny returning for the spring 2027 launch.

Toys for Bob has officially announced Spyro: A Realm Beyond, a new 3D action-platformer marking the first core entry in the Spyro franchise in nearly 20 years. Revealed during the 2026 Xbox Games Showcase, the title is scheduled for release in spring 2027 across Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.
The game seeks to modernise the classic 3D platformer formula by integrating seamless transitions between ground and aerial exploration. Studio head Paul Yan and associate creative director Lou Studdert emphasised that the development process prioritised fluidity of movement and a zen-like momentum, allowing players to interact with detailed environments while maintaining the character's unique identity.
Original voice actor Tom Kenny is returning to voice the purple dragon, ensuring the character retains the energy and vibe of the classic 1990s titles. The developers stated that the game is designed to serve as an accessible entry point for new players while remaining faithful to the legacy that long-time fans expect.
Toys for Bob, known for developing the Spyro: Reignited Trilogy and Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time, previously supported major titles such as Overwatch 2 and Call of Duty following the merger between Activision Blizzard and Microsoft. The studio credited this period of supporting other franchises with expanding their technical skill set before returning to their own projects.
While specific gameplay mechanics remain largely undisclosed, the developers confirmed that the game will feature larger, more detailed worlds. The focus remains on combining disparate experiences of exploration and flight to create a cohesive journey, with the title set to launch in spring 2027.
