Timberwolves reportedly dropped Jaylen Brown talks over Celtics’ asking price
Minnesota reportedly held internal discussions about acquiring Brown before rejecting a package involving Rudy Gobert and Naz Reid.
The Minnesota Timberwolves reportedly explored a trade for Jaylen Brown with the Boston Celtics before withdrawing over the price sought by Boston.
Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic said Minnesota had “real discussions” with the Celtics and held internal deliberations about a potential deal. According to Krawczynski, Boston was seeking Rudy Gobert and Naz Reid in return, a package Minnesota considered too costly.
The reported talks took place before Minnesota later traded Reid to the Charlotte Hornets for LaMelo Ball. Krawczynski said a different deal may have been possible if the Ball trade had not gone ahead and Boston’s demands had changed.
The discussions were part of wider reported interest in Brown, with the Atlanta Hawks, Portland Trail Blazers and Golden State Warriors also linked with the former Celtics star. Brown was subsequently reported to have moved from Boston to the Philadelphia 76ers.
