Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards listed as questionable for playoff opener against Spurs
Anthony Edwards and Ayo Dosunmu face medical hurdles before Monday night's clash with a 62-win San Antonio side

Minnesota Timberwolves star guard Anthony Edwards has been listed as questionable for Game 1 of their second-round NBA playoff series against the San Antonio Spurs on Monday night. The decision follows a period of light on-court work and travel to San Antonio, during which Edwards was officially cleared for basketball activities ahead of the team's Monday morning shootaround. Despite this clearance, his participation in the opener remains unconfirmed pending further medical evaluation.
The injury in question is a bone bruise to Edwards' left knee, sustained when he hyperextended it on April 25 during a block attempt in Game 4 of the first round against the Denver Nuggets. While the Timberwolves clinched that series by winning Game 6 at home without Edwards, the upcoming matchup against the Spurs presents a significant challenge. The Spurs finished the regular season with 62 wins, making Minnesota heavy underdogs in this second-round contest.
Medical performance vice president David Hines has indicated that the recovery timeline is estimated at one to two weeks. This window is contingent on Edwards hitting specific metrics for pain management, mobility, and functional strength. Edwards has demonstrated a history of returning ahead of schedule and has been aggressive in his recovery process due to the urgency of the playoffs. He recently released a video showing himself running on an underwater treadmill, suggesting an accelerated pace.
However, the team has remained cautious, noting that Edwards has also been managing persistent inflammation in his right knee over the past month. While initial projections from team sources targeted a return for Games 3 or 4, current indications suggest Edwards may be accelerating that estimate. The specific duration of his call-up and his ability to meet the required medical standards in the next couple of weeks remain unknown.
Reserve guard Ayo Dosunmu was also listed as questionable for the same match due to right calf soreness. Dosunmu missed Game 6 against Denver for the same reason and faces a similar uncertainty regarding his availability for the series opener. The combination of potential absences for both guards adds further complexity to the Timberwolves' roster management as they prepare to face a high-powered Spurs squad.
