ThermoWorks debuts Gravitas kitchen scale with detachable display
The new Gravitas unit features a wireless screen, 5kg capacity, and IP66 rating, with pre-orders opening at $119.

ThermoWorks has entered the kitchen scale market with the launch of the Gravitas, marking the company’s first foray into precision weighing. Known primarily for its food thermometers and reputation for rigorous testing, the brand is now applying its calibration standards to a new category of kitchen hardware. The device is currently available for pre-order at a price point of $119.
The standout feature of the Gravitas is its fully wireless, detachable display, which connects to the base unit via 2.4GHz RF technology. This design allows users to reposition the screen to avoid obstruction by large mixing bowls or other kitchen equipment. The display includes a backlit screen with large digits, 180-degree auto-rotation, and integrated magnets to facilitate flexible placement without the need for Bluetooth or Wi-Fi pairing.
In terms of performance, the scale offers a maximum weight capacity of 5kg (11lb) with precision measurements to the tenth of a gram and the thousandth of an ounce. ThermoWorks states that the unit is NIST-traceable certified, with calibration accuracy guaranteed within 0.7 grams. The base unit is also IP66 rated for water and dust resistance, and the measuring plate is removable for hand washing.
The device incorporates a memory function designed to retain user data during short interruptions. The scale enters standby mode after five minutes of inactivity but retains the last reading for up to 15 minutes, providing a total memory window of 20 minutes. Battery life is rated at up to 300 hours for the base unit using four AA batteries, and up to 350 hours for the detachable display using two AA batteries.
The Gravitas is available for pre-order in five colour options: charcoal, red, white, blue, and yellow. While the device represents a new product line for ThermoWorks, the company positions the Gravitas as an extension of its established focus on accuracy and durability in kitchen tools.
