Thermacell Launches Liv 2.0 Smart Mosquito System with Higher Price Tag and Commercial Focus

Thermacell’s latest smart mosquito system is bigger and more expensive
Upgraded Wi-Fi-connected repellent requires professional installation and targets larger outdoor spaces

Thermacell has released the Liv 2.0, an upgraded Wi-Fi-connected smart mosquito repellent system that expands coverage to up to 3,000 square feet and now deters no-see-ums in addition to mosquitoes. The new system requires professional installation and starts at approximately $1,746 for a three-repeller configuration covering up to 900 square feet. This pricing represents a substantial increase from the original Liv system, which launched at $699 and was available for do-it-yourself installation.

The price escalation is attributed to a complete hardware overhaul and rising global component costs for Internet of Things products. According to Adam Goess of Thermacell, the company has re-architected the cloud connectivity and introduced entirely new hardware, including a new hub, redesigned repellers with improved release rates, and a new branching system for flexible placement. The system uses metofluthrin-based repellent capsules that heat to create a 20-foot zone of protection and is EPA-registered, with the company stating it is safe for pets and children.

Pricing structures for the Liv 2.0 vary based on coverage requirements. Beyond the base three-repeller setup, costs rise to $2,150 for a four-repeller system and reach $4,900 for a ten-repeller configuration designed to cover the full 3,000 square feet. Thermacell indicates that this largest commercial setup is specifically targeted at businesses such as restaurants with outdoor dining spaces. The starting price does not include the cost of professional installation, which is mandatory for the new system.

Connectivity features remain a central component of the product, with the Liv 2.0 integrating with the Liv+ app to allow control via Amazon Alexa and Google Home. Users can schedule timers, set automatic shut-offs, and receive push notifications to conserve repellent. Thermacell has confirmed there is no subscription required for the app and has committed to keeping the software free of paywalls, distinguishing the system from standalone battery- or butane-powered repellers by offering broader, centrally controlled protection.

The original Liv system remains available for purchase but has been re-priced to start at $1,500, reflecting the shift in market positioning and component costs. While Thermacell argues that the Liv 2.0’s cost is comparable to hiring a professional spraying service for a season, the system is currently available only through Thermacell professional installers. The launch marks a distinct move toward higher-end, commercial-grade smart home pest management solutions.
