Texas Tech infielder Linkin Garcia commits to University of Texas via transfer portal
Garcia becomes one of the first four Texas Tech players to enter the NCAA portal, highlighting significant personnel shifts for a program seeking stability after a third consecutive missed tournament.

Linkin Garcia, a 21-year-old infielder for Texas Tech, has entered the NCAA transfer portal and committed to the University of Texas. The announcement, made on Wednesday, June 3, marks a significant personnel move for the Red Raiders, who are navigating a period of substantial roster turnover following a season that ended with a 27-28 record.
Garcia was a cornerstone of the Texas Tech lineup, starting every game of the season across 30 contests at shortstop and 25 at third base. He finished as the team’s third-leading run producer, recording a .338 batting average, four home runs, and 59 runs batted in. His performance earned him a spot on the Big 12’s all-freshman team, underscoring his impact despite the team’s overall struggles.
The transfer occurs within the NCAA’s undergraduate college baseball transfer window, which remains open from June 1 to June 30. Garcia is one of the first four Texas Tech players to utilise the portal, joining first baseman-designated hitter Hollis Porter, shortstop-third baseman Luke Orfi, and catcher Davis Rivers. Rivers has already announced his intention to transfer to Louisiana-Monroe.
This exodus of talent comes as Texas Tech seeks to rebuild after missing the NCAA tournament for the third consecutive year and posting a losing record for the second year in a row. The program’s pitching staff recorded a 7.92 earned-run average, while the offense, which averaged a Big 12-best 8.6 runs per game, faces the loss of several key contributors.
Athletics director Kirby Hocutt confirmed that head coach Tim Tadlock will remain in his position, aiming to stabilise the programme amidst the changes. Beyond Garcia, other players such as left fielder Logan Hughes, designated hitter Caden Ferraro, and catcher Matt Quintanar are expected to be drafted, while first baseman Robin Villeneuve and second baseman Tracer Lopez have completed their eligibility.
