Texas baseball program honours 2026 season leadership and performance
Freshman Anthony Pack Jr. named MVP as Texas recognises standout contributors in a season that saw the team reach the national championship series.
The Texas baseball program has formally concluded its 2026 campaign by announcing the recipients of its annual team awards, recognising the key figures behind a season that saw the Longhorns reach the College World Series. The announcements were made on Monday, approximately a month after the team’s final game of the year.
Freshman outfielder Anthony Pack Jr. was selected as the Brooks Kieschnick Team MVP, a distinction that highlights his significant impact on the roster. Pack led the team in batting average at .355, recording 21 stolen bases, 56 runs batted in, and 61 runs scored. His selection marks the first time a freshman has received the program’s team-selected MVP honour since Omar Quintanilla in 2001.
Pack is part of a small group of first-year players to achieve this accolade in the past half-century. Alongside Quintanilla, only Greg Swindell (1984), Keith Creel (1978), and Kieschnick himself (1991) have been named the freshman MVP over the last 50 years. The award, originally introduced in 1962 and discontinued after 2012, was reinstated and renamed in Kieschnick’s honour in 2017.
The awards ceremony also recognised several other pivotal contributors to the team’s 46-15 record and second-place finish in the Southeastern Conference. Pitcher Dylan Volantis defended his 2025 Greg Swindell Pitcher of the Year title, finishing the 2026 season with a 10-2 record, a 2.08 earned run average, and 135 strikeouts.
Outfielder Aiden Robbins, who transferred to Texas from Seton Hall, was named the Keith Moreland Offensive Player of the Year after hitting 24 home runs, tying for the third-most in school history. Catcher Carson Tinney received the Spike Owen Defensive Player of the Year award for his .992 fielding percentage, while fifth-year senior pitcher Luke Harrison was honoured with the James and Huston Street Longhorn Award for his 6-4 record and leadership.
Ethan Walker was recognised as the Sean Braswell Academic MVP, acknowledging his achievements outside of athletic performance. The team’s season concluded at the College World Series, where they were eliminated by Georgia with a 2-0 loss, marking their first appearance in the national championship series since 2022.
