Tennessee football has officially unveiled its new smokey grey uniform set for the 2026 season, marking a significant shift in the program's visual identity. The announcement was made via the team's X account on Thursday, introducing a kit that departs from recent iterations of the grey uniform worn in previous seasons.

The new design features black jerseys paired with orange numbers. Most notably, the helmet design omits the traditional "T" logo, a change that distinguishes this set from standard home and away kits. The uniform also incorporates specific patches honouring General Neyland, alongside the official logos of the Southeastern Conference (SEC) and apparel provider adidas.

This release follows a separate announcement made on Wednesday regarding the upcoming Tennessee-Alabama matchups. Both institutions have agreed to wear their respective home jerseys in the 2026 and 2027 games, a practice not seen in the rivalry since 1970. Tennessee will wear orange for the 2026 contest in Knoxville, while Alabama will wear Crimson. The following year, the roles will reverse as the game moves to Tuscaloosa.

The scheduling of these home jersey matchups represents a notable structural decision for the series, emphasising the traditional colours of each institution rather than the standard away uniform protocols typically observed in high-profile college football games.

Tennessee’s 2026 campaign is scheduled to begin on 5 September against the Furman Paladins. Kickoff for the season opener is set for 3:30 p.m. ET, with the match to be broadcast on the SEC Network. The new smokey grey set is designated for use during the 2026 season, adding to the variety of uniforms the program has utilised in recent years.
