Industry giants unveil new titles as festival wraps in Los Angeles

Summer Game Fest 2026 concluded on June 9 following a week-long series of events in Los Angeles, bringing to a close the sixth iteration of the industry’s premier showcase period. The festival featured major presentations from Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo, alongside numerous regional and thematic showcases highlighting diverse voices within the gaming sector.

The main event, hosted by Geoff Keighley and Lucy James, featured the reveal of Until Dawn 2 by Firesprite, the announcement of Persona 6, and a digital appearance by Tupac Shakur. Sony’s State of Play highlighted Silent Hill: Townfall and Control Resonant, while Microsoft’s showcase, led by new head Asha Sharma, included the reveal of Spyro: A Realm Beyond. Nintendo released a final Direct on June 9, announcing Kingdom Hearts IV and a new Ocarina of Time demo.

Beyond the major publisher showcases, the festival included a wide array of regional and thematic events. These included the Latin American Games Showcase, Women-Led Games Showcase, Black Voices in Gaming, and the inaugural Gayming Pride Parade. The Latin American showcase featured more than 80 titles from 12 countries, while the Black Voices in Gaming event, created by The MIX and Xperience Studios, amplified work from Black creators and provided support for developers making games that reflect the lived experiences of Black, Indigenous and other People of Color.

The event also featured dedicated showcases for indie and niche markets, such as the Southeast Asian Games Showcase, the Wholesome Direct, and the Green Games Showcase. The latter highlighted interactive experiences focused on nature and included titles like Doomsday Diner and Cairn, with proceeds from sales supporting planet-saving projects. The inaugural Gayming Pride Parade, organised by the Gayming Foundation and Gayming Magazine, featured games with queer themes from queer creators, including Rizz Dungeon: Skeleton Key to My Heart.

Microsoft’s presentation marked the first Xbox showcase without Phil Spencer at the helm of the gaming division. Asha Sharma introduced a range of titles from Xbox studios and beyond, alongside fresh hardware announcements. Meanwhile, Nintendo’s late-entry Direct on June 9 provided a final burst of news, including a trailer for Kingdom Hearts IV and a new demo for Ocarina of Time, rounding out a comprehensive week of industry announcements.
