Stewart’s suspension exposes South Carolina’s accountability standard

South Carolina has suspended edge rusher Dylan Stewart indefinitely after he punched Alabama tight end Josh Ford in the helmet during Saturday’s 49–18 loss. Stewart was penalised for a personal foul over the incident in the fourth quarter.
Coach Shane Beamer said he would decide early this week whether and when Stewart could return. Stewart has already been ruled out of South Carolina’s upcoming game against Kentucky; no further absence has been specified.
Beamer said the punch was unacceptable and pointed to other conduct and accountability in explaining the suspension. He said the programme expected players to meet its standards.
Stewart missed the season’s first two games with a back injury. In two games, he has recorded one tackle for loss and three quarterback hurries, according to the Associated Press report carried by Fox Sports.
