Steelers training camp evacuated as storms disrupt final preparations
Head coach Mike McCarthy prioritised one final installation before the team shifted focus to the upcoming fixture, while key personnel remained absent from the session.

Severe weather conditions forced the Pittsburgh Steelers to evacuate their outdoor training camp on Monday, necessitating a rapid relocation to an indoor facility just days before their scheduled preseason opener. The disruption occurred as the team sought to finalise their preparations for the upcoming match against the Green Bay Packers.
Practice was scheduled to resume at 11 a.m., with Channel 11 Sports Director Jenna Harner noting a palpable sense of urgency among the squad as they attempted to complete meaningful work before the storms arrived. The session included live collision drills designed for the offensive and defensive lines, specifically during the period referred to as the "Franco moment."
The team had completed four repetitions of this drill when the PA announcer ordered an evacuation of fans and media less than an hour into the session. The players were subsequently moved to the new indoor facility to conclude their practice schedule.
Head coach Mike McCarthy indicated that the primary objective was to finish one installation before turning full attention to the Green Bay game. Following the session, player Derrick Harmon confirmed that the team had achieved their desired output despite the weather interruptions.
Harmon stated that the inside run and Franco moments provided valuable repetitions for the offensive and defensive lines. He emphasised the utility of the live period, noting that such opportunities for real collision are limited in standard practice settings.
Several high-profile players were not present at the training session. Absent from the field were DK Metcalf, Michael Pittman Jr., T.J. Watt, and Cam Heyward. Pittman Jr. was listed as being absent due to an injury.
The report on the training camp disruption was attributed to Channel 11 Sports Director Jenna Harner and WPXI News.
