NHL championship series begins Tuesday with Hurricanes hosting Game 1

The 2026 Stanley Cup Final is officially confirmed as a matchup between the Vegas Golden Knights and the Carolina Hurricanes, with Game 1 scheduled for Tuesday at 8 p.m. ET at the Lenovo Center in Raleigh, North Carolina. The series will be broadcast on ABC and follows a seven-game format, with the potential final game set for June 17, 2026.

The Hurricanes advanced to the championship round with a remarkable 12-1 playoff record, marking the fewest losses by any team since the league adopted the best-of-seven format for all four rounds in 1987. Their path included sweeps of the Ottawa Senators and Philadelphia Flyers, followed by a five-game victory over the Montreal Canadiens in the Eastern Conference Final. This appearance marks Carolina’s third trip to the Stanley Cup Final in franchise history and their first since winning the title in 2006.

Conversely, the Vegas Golden Knights navigated a more demanding route to reach the final, requiring 16 games to defeat the Utah Mammoth and Anaheim Ducks in six games each before sweeping the Presidents' Trophy-winning Colorado Avalanche in the Western Conference Final. This is the third Finals appearance for Vegas in their nine-season existence, following their championship run in 2023 and a final appearance in 2018.

Key statistical trends highlight the contrasting journeys of the two franchises. The Hurricanes’ top line of Jackson Blake, Taylor Hall, and Logan Stankoven has accounted for 42 of the team’s 121 postseason points. Hall has recorded five goals and 11 assists in 13 games, while goaltender Frederik Andersen has posted a 1.44 goals-against average and a .928 save percentage during the playoffs, a significant improvement from his regular-season performance.

For Vegas, head coach John Tortorella has instilled resilience, with the team winning 11 of their last 13 games since his appointment in late March. Goaltender Carter Hart has been pivotal, particularly during the Western Conference Final where he recorded a .944 save percentage. The Golden Knights roster includes 11 players from their 2023 championship team, and key figures such as Jack Eichel and Noah Hanifin are seeking to join Ken Morrow as the only U.S. players to win both Olympic gold and the Stanley Cup in the same year.

The series schedule begins with the Golden Knights travelling to Raleigh for Games 1 and 2 on Tuesday and Thursday. The action then shifts to Las Vegas for Games 3 and 4 on June 6 and June 9, with Games 5, 6, and 7 potentially returning to North Carolina on June 11, June 14, and June 17 respectively.
