Spurs level Western Conference finals with dominant defensive display
Victor Wembanyama scores 33 points as Spurs defeat Oklahoma City 103-82 to tie series at 2-2

The San Antonio Spurs have levelled the Western Conference finals series at 2-2, securing a commanding 103-82 victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder in Game 4 on Sunday night. The win, played at the Frost Bank Center, halts Oklahoma City’s momentum after they had taken a 2-1 series lead with a 123-108 victory in Game 3.
Victor Wembanyama was the central figure in San Antonio’s resurgence, finishing with 33 points, eight rebounds, five assists, and three blocks. The French star stated that he took the previous game’s loss personally and recognised the need to elevate his performance to support his teammates. His output was complemented by a strong defensive effort that restricted the Thunder to 33% field goal shooting and just 18% from three-point range, with Oklahoma City making only six of 33 attempts from deep.
San Antonio established control early, launching a 16-0 run to take a 23-8 lead with 4:19 remaining in the first quarter. The opening period was marked by exceptional ball movement, with the Spurs recording an assist on all 10 of their field goals. A key sequence in the run saw Devin Vassell block a layup by Jared McCain before tossing an alley-oop pass to Wembanyama for a dunk.
De'Aaron Fox contributed 12 points, 10 rebounds, and five assists, while Stephon Castle and Devin Vassell each added 13 points. The Spurs’ bench also played a crucial role, scoring 30 points and limiting Oklahoma City’s reserves to 34, a significant improvement from the previous game where San Antonio was outscored 76-23 on the second unit. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led the Thunder with 19 points on 6-for-15 shooting.
The victory ensures the Spurs have not lost three consecutive games this season. The series now shifts to Oklahoma City for Game 5 on Tuesday, with Game 6 scheduled for Thursday in San Antonio.
