Spurs defeat Thunder in Game 7 to reach NBA Finals
San Antonio advances to the NBA Finals after a 111-103 win over Oklahoma City, driven by a critical fourth-quarter defensive stop.

The San Antonio Spurs have secured their place in the NBA Finals after defeating the Oklahoma City Thunder 111-103 in Game 7 of the Western Conference finals. The decisive moment arrived with approximately six and a half minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, when Luke Kornet blocked a potential dunk attempt by Thunder centre Isaiah Hartenstein. At the time of the block, the Spurs held a 97-91 lead.
The sequence occurred immediately after the Spurs had turned the ball over near midcourt. Hartenstein drove down the right side and was preparing to dunk when Kornet, chasing the play, met him at the basket. The block prevented the crowd from reacting to a potential score, dampening the Thunder’s momentum. The Spurs maintained their advantage for the remainder of the game to win the series.
Kornet’s final statistical line for Game 7 was six minutes played, 0-for-3 shooting, two points, and four rebounds. He checked out of the game shortly after the block; upon reaching the bench, he was greeted by a dozen Spurs reserves and staff members with celebratory physical gestures. A bench member compared Kornet’s block to LeBron James’ chasedown block of Andre Iguodala in Game 7 of the 2016 NBA Finals.
Kornet responded to the comparison by stating, “Let's see which one has more staying power in the record books or history or whatever.” Spurs guard Stephon Castle described the block as “none of them [plays] to the magnitude of that one.”
Victor Wembanyama expressed gratitude for the experience, stating, “My life is amazing and being with these guys... it's amazing.” The game took place in Oklahoma City on a Saturday night.
