Spotify rolls out verification badges for podcasts to combat AI-generated content
The move follows a similar initiative for music artists, as the streaming giant seeks to distinguish human-made audio from synthetic material across its library of over 7 million titles.

Spotify has launched a new verification system for its podcast network, introducing 'Verified by Spotify' badges to authenticate creator identities and help listeners navigate an increasingly crowded digital landscape. The initiative marks the first step in a broader strategy to support a more trustworthy podcast ecosystem, according to the platform.
The verification badge is distinguished by a light green checkmark icon, which will appear on show pages and within search results. This visual cue is designed to help audiences quickly identify human-made content amidst a growing volume of synthetic audio. The rollout begins immediately across the platform’s library of more than 7 million podcast titles, though the full verification process is expected to take several months to complete.
To qualify for verification, Spotify evaluates both the podcast content and sustained listener engagement metrics. The company noted that AI-generated shows often attract bot-driven audiences, making consistent audience engagement over time a key differentiator for authentic creators. This approach mirrors a similar verification system recently implemented for music artists, which was necessitated by AI-generated tracks accounting for approximately 44 percent of all recently uploaded songs in that category.
In addition to authentication, the platform is taking enforcement action against impersonation. Spotify confirmed it will remove podcasts that mimic other creators using AI voice cloning or similar methods. While AI-generated content remains permitted on the service, it must not infringe on these impersonation policies. The company stated that more than 99 percent of the artists Spotify listeners actively search for are now verified in the music category, setting a precedent for the podcast rollout.
The introduction of these badges follows a period where the platform had to address the surge in synthetic media across its services. By prioritising sustained listener activity and removing impersonating content, Spotify aims to maintain the integrity of its creator economy. The company described this verification tool as the first in a series of steps to ensure listeners can distinguish between human and artificial content as the technology evolves.
