Spotify has expanded its AI-powered personal DJ feature to Premium subscribers in more than 75 global markets. The latest rollout brings the service to new territories including Austria, Brazil, France, Germany, Italy, Portugal, South Korea, and Switzerland, marking a significant increase from the 50 countries where it was available by August 2023.

Alongside the geographic expansion, the streaming platform has introduced four new language options for the feature. Users can now interact with the AI DJ in French, German, Italian, and Brazilian Portuguese, each accompanied by a distinct voice persona. This update allows the service to reach a broader audience while maintaining the unique character of the digital DJ in each locale.

The technology powering this experience is generative AI, developed in partnership with OpenAI. Unlike standard algorithmic playlists, the AI DJ digs into a user's listening history to curate selections based on recent activity, favourite artists, specific genres, mood, or chosen activities. It also provides contextual commentary on the music being played, offering a conversational layer to the listening experience.

This capability has been available to Premium subscribers for over three years, yet the recent update represents a substantial scaling of its reach. By integrating the feature into more than 75 markets, Spotify aims to solidify its position as a leader in personalised audio streaming, leveraging advanced artificial intelligence to enhance user engagement across diverse regions.

The expansion highlights a growing trend among media companies to integrate sophisticated AI tools directly into consumer-facing products.
