Spotify expands podcast sharing with global clips feature
The update, available to both free and premium subscribers on mobile, coincides with a broader rollout of artificial intelligence-driven features at the streaming giant.

Spotify has launched a global feature enabling users to locate, trim and share specific segments from podcasts using text search. The tool, accessible via a scissor icon in the Now Playing view on the mobile app, allows listeners to capture moments from supported shows and distribute them through Spotify Messages or other external platforms.
The update is available to both free and premium users on mobile devices. According to the company, the feature aims to streamline the creation and sharing of podcast clips, which are frequently discovered via social media. Users can utilise a text interface to find desired segments, select the portion they wish to capture, and trim it to their preferred length before saving it to their library.
This release forms part of a wider suite of artificial intelligence-related updates being deployed by the streaming service. Spotify has recently introduced a podcast chatbot designed to provide context on hosts and guests, as well as a "personal podcasts" generator that creates content based on user prompts, text, PDFs and web links. The latter feature has been described in reports as controversial.
Availability of the clips feature is expanding across more shows over time, though the specific list of supported podcasts has not been detailed. The company noted that the tool is part of an ongoing effort to enhance the sharing experience, which now includes additional options for episodes, chapters and timestamps accessible via the share icon.
The launch underscores Spotify’s continued push into AI-driven functionality and user-generated content distribution. By lowering the barrier to creating shareable audio snippets, the platform seeks to facilitate organic discovery and engagement among its user base.
