Spotify adds AI-powered Q&A and briefing generation features to podcasts
New features allow Premium users to generate custom briefings and query episodes via AI, while introducing subscription options for creators

Spotify has introduced a suite of new artificial intelligence features designed to transform its platform from a passive consumption hub into a tool for personalised content generation. The update allows users to create custom podcasts and daily or weekly briefings based on specific prompts, marking a significant shift in how the company’s audience interacts with audio media.

The new AI-powered Q&A feature is now available to Premium mobile users in the United States, Sweden, and Ireland. This functionality enables listeners to ask questions about specific episodes or concepts encountered during playback, as well as request recommendations for new content. The launch coincides with similar initiatives from competitors, including Google’s recent release of ‘Ask YouTube’.

Beyond interactive queries, Spotify has expanded its generative audio capabilities. Users can now generate one-off podcasts to understand complex topics or schedule recurring briefings on subjects of interest, such as local events or economic trends. The system supports the upload of links, PDFs, and text, allowing users to select custom voices for the generated content. This move mirrors features recently introduced by NotebookLM, ElevenLabs Reader, and Huxe.

To facilitate these changes, Spotify released a desktop application called Studio by Spotify Labs, which connects with users’ email and calendar to streamline the creation of personalised briefings. Additionally, the company has released a GitHub-based command-line tool for Claude Code and Codex, allowing developers to create podcasts and save them to their libraries, with plans to integrate this functionality directly into the main Spotify app in the near future.

For content creators, the update introduces new monetisation and management tools. Spotify is rolling out a sponsorship tool to help podcasters manage brand partnerships and is enabling creators to charge subscriptions for exclusive content and experiences. This strategy aligns with offerings from social platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, and Snap, which already provide similar products to their creator communities.

The company also highlighted its ongoing push into video content, noting that video podcast streaming has increased by 50 per cent year-on-year. These new AI and creator tools are designed to deepen user engagement and diversify revenue streams as the platform competes for attention in an increasingly crowded digital media landscape.
