SportsLine model projects Scheffler as Travelers Championship favourite amid loaded PGA field
Mike McClure’s proprietary algorithm, which claims a history of predicting 17 major championship outcomes, has generated a projected leaderboard for Thursday’s tournament at TPC River Highlands.
Mike McClure’s SportsLine computer model has simulated the 2026 Travelers Championship 10,000 times to generate a projected leaderboard and betting insights for the final Signature Event of the PGA Tour season. The tournament is scheduled to begin on Thursday at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Connecticut, featuring a field described as loaded due to its proximity to last week’s U.S. Open.
The simulation identifies Scottie Scheffler as the +480 favourite via FanDuel Sportsbook, positioning him as the primary contender for the title. Following Scheffler in the odds board are Tommy Fleetwood at +1600, Xander Schauffele at +1800, and Ludvig Åberg at +2000. U.S. Open champion Wyndham Clark is listed at longer odds of +3500. The field includes most top-ranked players on tour, with the notable exception of Rory McIlroy.
While the model supports the heavy favourites, it offers specific contrarian advice regarding Cameron Young. Despite being listed at +2200, the algorithm advises fading Young, predicting he will finish outside the top 10. The reasoning cites a recent decline in form, noting that Young has finished outside the top 25 in his past three events, including a 43rd-place finish at the U.S. Open, after a strong start to the spring season.
Conversely, the model projects Justin Thomas as a top-5 contender despite his longer odds of +2700 and a lack of major championship victories. Thomas has demonstrated consistency since the start of May, finishing no worse than 19th in any event during that period. He also recorded two sub-70 rounds at Shinnecock Hills during the U.S. Open and has previously achieved three top-10 finishes at the Travelers Championship.
The SportsLine model, built by DFS professional Mike McClure, claims to have accurately predicted the outcomes of 17 major championships, including five consecutive Masters titles.
