Canadiens vs. Hurricanes odds, prediction: 2026 NHL Eastern Conference finals Game 1 picks by proven model
Montreal Canadiens face Carolina Hurricanes in Game 1

The SportsLine projection model has released its initial analysis for Game 1 of the 2026 NHL Eastern Conference finals, pitting the Montreal Canadiens against the Carolina Hurricanes. Utilising a simulation engine that runs each game 10,000 times, the model has identified specific trends in scoring and player performance ahead of the series opener.

Carolina enters the contest as the -200 favourite on the money line, reflecting their dominant regular-season finish. The Hurricanes topped the Eastern Conference standings and made history by becoming the first team in NHL records to sweep their first two best-of-seven playoff series. In contrast, the Canadiens, who finished third in the Atlantic Division, advanced through back-to-back seven-game victories against the Tampa Bay Lightning and Buffalo Sabres.

The model projects a combined total of 6.3 goals for the matchup, positioning the over on the 5.5-goal line as the primary statistical play. This projection appears 57.1 per cent of the time in simulations. The analysis cites recent offensive trends, noting that the over has hit in two of the Canadiens’ last three games, three of the Hurricanes’ last five, and 60 per cent of Carolina’s home games this season.

Individual player metrics form a significant portion of the model’s output. For Montreal, Cole Caufield is projected to record 0.56 goals and 0.45 assists, while goaltender Jakub Dobes is expected to make 26.1 saves and allow 3.02 goals. On the Carolina side, Seth Jarvis is forecast to contribute 0.42 goals and 0.46 assists, with goaltender Frederik Andersen projected to make 19 saves and allow 3.02 goals.

Game 1 is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET at the Lenovo Center in Raleigh, North Carolina. The SportsLine model, which claims a +668 return on top-rated money-line NHL picks entering the conference final round, directs users to its platform for the final selection on which side of the money line holds the most value.
