Expert picks highlight matchups between Athletics and Cubs, Dodgers and Diamondbacks

SportsLine expert Adam Thompson has released his top home run prop bets for Major League Baseball action on Thursday, June 4. The recommendations focus on two specific matchups: Oakland Athletics catcher Shea Langeliers against Chicago Cubs pitcher Shota Imanaga, and Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman against Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Ryne Nelson.

Thompson, who rejoined SportsLine in 2026 after serving as a betting analyst for the Gambling.com Group, has recorded a profit of over 70 units in MLB and more than 60 units in the NBA at sports betting apps over the past two seasons. His analysis for the evening slate prioritises statistical trends and environmental factors.

For the Athletics-Cubs game, Thompson cites wind blowing out to left field at Wrigley Field as a key factor. He notes that Cubs starter Shota Imanaga has allowed eight home runs in his last three starts, including five in his past two appearances at Wrigley. Langeliers, who hits the ball hard and in the air, holds an OPS of .951 against left-handed pitchers and has a history of hitting more home runs on the road and at night.

In the series finale between the Dodgers and Diamondbacks, Thompson favours Freeman over Nelson due to the pitcher's recent struggles. Nelson has allowed 15 home runs in 12 starts and carries a 5.97 ERA at home, with particular difficulty against left-handed hitters. The Dodgers rank third in home runs hit, second in runs scored, and first in batting average.

Freddie Freeman has hit one home run in his last two games, going 5-for-11, and performs better on the road with a higher batting average and more home runs. While Shohei Ohtani is 2-for-15 lifetime against Nelson with no home runs or RBIs, Freeman has one home run in two career at-bats against the pitcher.
