Sports betting expert targets Yordan Alvarez for Monday’s MLB slate
SportsLine analyst highlights batter-pitcher splits and weather conditions to back Alvarez, Jackson Chourio and Trent Grisham for home run props on June 8.

SportsLine analyst Angelo Magliocca has identified Houston Astros star Yordan Alvarez as a primary value pick for Monday’s Major League Baseball schedule. With just eight games on the slate, Magliocca, also known as "Amags," points to specific batter-pitcher mismatches and environmental factors to guide his home run prop selections for June 8.
Alvarez is set to face Baltimore Orioles pitcher Grayson Rodriguez, a matchup Magliocca describes as ripe for offensive production. Rodriguez has surrendered four home runs in his last three starts, including two against the Colorado Rockies. The analyst notes that Rodriguez has been particularly vulnerable to left-handed batters, sitting in the third percentile for hard-hit rate against them.
The data supports this vulnerability, with Rodriguez allowing three home runs and 16 hits to left-handed hitters in just 10 innings. Magliocca highlights Alvarez’s own strong performance against left-handed pitching, recording eight home runs in 77 plate appearances this season. Favourable weather conditions further bolster the case for the Astros slugger, who is an American League MVP hopeful.
Beyond the Yankees-Guardians matchup, Magliocca recommends Milwaukee Brewers players Jackson Chourio and Sal Contreras. Angels pitcher Jeffrey Springs has allowed at least one home run in eight of his last nine starts, pitching in Las Vegas where high temperatures have pushed the over/under total to between 10.5 and 11 runs. Chourio has demonstrated significant power against left-handed pitching, hitting the ball hard with one home run in 29 at-bats this season.
Cleveland Guardians outfielder Trent Grisham is also listed as a value pick at odds better than +500. He faces Guardians pitcher Gavin Williams, who has allowed eight home runs to left-handed batters in just under 50 innings this season. Magliocca’s selections are part of a broader strategy that has seen him profit 133.4 units on straight bets and parlays across the 2022 to 2025 MLB seasons.
