Spirited Gesture and Angel In My Heart are scheduled to contest the Fillies' Novice Stakes at Newcastle on Thursday, marking a significant clash in the early season novice division. The race serves as the headline event for a day of flat racing at Lingfield Park and Newcastle, which will be broadcast live on Sky Sports Racing from 2.10pm.
Spirited Gesture, a daughter of Kingman and sister to the high-class Calyx, is aiming for a second consecutive victory. Trained by John and Thady Gosden, the filly made a sparkling winning debut at Newmarket 19 days ago. Her performance was described as a taking display, leading to assessments that she rates a top-class prospect.
Her main opponent, Angel In My Heart, is trained by Adrian Keatley. The filly stepped up on her debut to land a novice race at Pontefract by a neck. While further improvement is considered possible, the outcome of the contest remains uncertain as both horses are yet to face each other in competitive conditions.
The day’s card also features a deep renewal of the EBF Maiden Stakes, where Joseph O'Brien's One Number bids for a first success. Rated 100 after finishing third in a Listed contest at Naas in July, the son of Jack Christopher is expected to set a high standard for the field.
In later proceedings, Azuinthejungle bids for a fourth consecutive win in the Knox Hydrate Handicap at 8.24pm. The Nigel Tinkler-trained four-year-old has won three times this summer under rider Alex Jary, capitalising on a sliding mark, though she will face a higher mark this time.
