Spielberg’s ‘Disclosure Day’ trailer highlights director’s evolved stance on extraterrestrial life
The final trailer for Steven Spielberg’s new film features the director discussing his increased belief in intelligent extraterrestrial life, while revealing key plot points involving a government whistleblower and a hijacked meteorologist.

Universal Pictures has released the final trailer for Disclosure Day, marking director Steven Spielberg’s return to the summer blockbuster genre centred on extraterrestrial contact. The marketing material prominently features Spielberg himself, interspersed with footage from the film, as he reflects on how his perspective on intelligent life has shifted since the 1970s.
In the trailer, Spielberg contrasts his current outlook with the era of Close Encounters of the Third Kind, stating that he now believes more firmly in the existence of other intelligent civilizations. He describes the film as a story about humanity facing an extraordinary event, expressing a hope that disclosure will remind people of their capacity for empathy and the reality that there is something larger than themselves.
The film centres on a government conspiracy to conceal the existence of aliens, a narrative described in previous marketing as a 79-year campaign of lies. The plot follows Daniel Kellner, played by Josh O’Connor, a whistleblower who has stolen government secrets regarding the conspiracy. Kellner intends to reveal the truth, placing him in direct danger from the conspirators who are willing to kill to protect their secrets.
Emily Blunt stars as a television meteorologist in Kansas City, whose character is shown being hijacked by aliens mid-broadcast, speaking in an alien language of clicks and pops. The final trailer reveals that Blunt’s character and O’Connor’s Kellner share a childhood connection, with hints suggesting both may have been subjects of alien experiments.
The screenplay was written by David Koepp, who has previously collaborated with Spielberg on Jurassic Park and War of the Worlds, while the score is composed by John Williams. The cast also includes Colin Firth, Eve Hewson, Colman Domingo, Wyatt Russell, Elizabeth Marvel, Henry Lloyd-Hughes, Michael Gaston, and Mckenna Bridger, with professional wrestlers Chavo Guerrero Jr., Lance Archer, and Brian Cage appearing in supporting roles.
Disclosure Day is scheduled for theatrical release on June 12, 2026. Preliminary reactions to the film have been described as overwhelmingly positive, following earlier marketing campaigns that included a Super Bowl trailer and a March release that outlined the government’s long-standing cover-up.
