Sony’s 10th Anniversary ‘ColleXion’ Headphones Leaked Ahead of Launch
Leaked renders and marketing slides reveal the specifications for Sony’s latest flagship, including a V3 co-processor, bespoke audio tuning, and a departure from traditional carrying cases.
Leaked images and marketing materials have provided a comprehensive look at Sony’s upcoming 10th anniversary headphones, the WH-1000XX “ColleXion” Edition. The device is scheduled for release on 19 May 2026, with a US retail price of $649. This pricing positions the new model at a $200 premium over the launch price of the current flagship WH-1000XM6 series. The leak, shared by OnLeaks and HotEUDeals, confirms details previously hinted at by Sony’s website in April, where the model number appeared alongside the “ColleXion” branding without accompanying visuals.
The design marks a distinct shift from the XM6 series, featuring thicker leatherette padding and “generously sized” earcups. Aesthetically, the headphones introduce colour-matched metallic yokes connecting the headband to the drivers. The microphone grilles have also been redesigned, replacing the previous mesh cavities with larger holes that punch directly through the earcup chassis. The units will be available in black and white colour options, with more distinct buttons located along the earcups.
Under the hood, the WH-1000XX utilises a V3 co-processor alongside the QN3 processor found in the XM6. This configuration supports Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) and delivers up to 24 hours of battery life with ANC enabled. When ANC is disabled, the battery life extends to 32 hours. Sony has partnered with Grammy-winning studios Battery Studios, Sterling Sound, and Coast Mastering to tune the headphones’ bespoke audio drivers, aiming to replicate the sound quality of high-profile recordings.
Packaging and accessories also see a notable deviation from Sony’s previous standards. The ColleXion Edition includes a handbag-style carry case featuring a built-in handle and a magnetic closure, a departure from the zipped cases typically associated with the brand. The case houses a USB-C charging cable and a 3.5mm audio cable for wired playback. This design choice contrasts with competitors such as Apple, whose AirPods Max packaging has previously drawn criticism for its unconventional form.
The leak corroborates the May 19 launch date and the $649 price point, signalling Sony’s intent to capture the high-end premium audio market. By combining updated hardware, exclusive studio tuning, and a distinct aesthetic overhaul, the ColleXion Edition aims to justify its position above the standard XM6 lineup. Consumers will need to wait until tomorrow to verify these specifications in person, but the leaked data suggests a significant investment in both materials and acoustic engineering.
