Sony releases first trailer for The Social Reckoning sequel
The new film, set 17 years after the original 2010 drama, sees Strong take over the role from Jesse Eisenberg as the narrative shifts to a whistleblower and a Wall Street Journal reporter.

Sony has released the first trailer for The Social Reckoning, the highly anticipated sequel to the 2010 film The Social Network, ahead of its scheduled theatrical release on October 9. Written and directed by Aaron Sorkin, the follow-up is set 17 years after the events depicted in the original movie, marking a significant temporal shift from the story of a college student building a website in his dorm.
Succession actor Jeremy Strong has been cast as an older Mark Zuckerberg, taking over the role previously portrayed by Jesse Eisenberg. Strong is noted for delivering a memorable impression of the Meta CEO’s distinct voice. The film’s narrative centres on a young Facebook engineer who enlists a Wall Street Journal reporter to help expose the platform’s secrets, moving the focus from the company’s creation to its internal fallout.
The cast also features Mikey Madison as Frances Haugen, a Facebook engineer and whistleblower, and Jeremy Allen White as Wall Street Journal reporter Jeff Horwitz. While the original film was directed by David Fincher with a screenplay by Sorkin, Sorkin serves as both writer and director for this sequel, continuing the creative partnership established over 15 years ago.
Sorkin previously debuted the trailer at CinemaCon several months prior to this release. Speaking to the audience, he described the new project as a “real David and Goliath story.” He noted that while the original film told the story of a dream that exploded into a global corporation, the sequel explores how the landscape has changed since that initial explosion.
The Social Reckoning arrives in cinemas on October 9, offering a new perspective on the social media giant’s history through the lens of internal whistleblowing and journalistic investigation.
