Snap has outlined the capabilities of its forthcoming $2,195 Specs augmented-reality glasses at a launch event in Los Angeles, positioning the device as a platform for language translation, sports assistance and enterprise applications. The glasses are expected to begin shipping in autumn 2026.

The company also launched Specs Intelligence, an AI service available on Specs, iPhone and Mac. Snap describes the service as “anticipatory”, saying it can use selected connected apps and tools to build an understanding of a user’s goals, priorities, relationships and routines.

Specs Intelligence can help with tasks including finding a hotel, organising travel and answering questions, according to Snap. The service organises information around areas such as work, family and goals, but the amount of data it will collect, how that data will be protected and how accurately it can anticipate users’ intentions remain unclear.

Snap is also presenting Specs as an enterprise product. It announced partnerships with Salesforce, Amazon and Nvidia to develop applications that could place codes or specifications in a wearer’s field of view, help locate parts on products and check stock levels. The partnerships do not mean all of those features are already available.

Privacy and practicality remain central questions for the device. Snap says an LED indicates when its cameras are capturing images and that Specs do not use facial recognition to identify people. The glasses have also been described as large, heavy and expensive, leaving their comfort and suitability for sports unresolved.

A public Specs demonstration is planned for 1 October at Westfield Century City in Los Angeles. The launch follows Snap’s June announcement of the latest Specs at the Augmented World Expo, with chief executive Evan Spiegel saying the company wants to make “computing more human”.
