Snap introduces Specs Intelligence AI assistant for AR glasses
Snap’s standalone service will connect with selected external accounts, with limited US iOS access available and full early access initially invite-only on Mac.
Snap has introduced Specs Intelligence, a standalone AI assistant designed for its redesigned AR glasses and dedicated mobile and desktop apps.
The company describes the service as an “anticipatory AI service” separate from Snapchat. It is intended to build an understanding of users’ goals, priorities, relationships and routines through apps and tools they choose to connect.
Specs Intelligence can connect to external accounts such as Google to provide reminders and context-sensitive information. On Specs glasses, users will be able to ask questions using the phrase “Hey Specs”, with relevant information potentially displayed in their field of view.
A limited US preview is available through the Specs iOS app. The preview allows users to connect Google accounts and receive insights into where they spend time and attention, but does not include proactive suggestions. Full early access will initially be invite-only and limited to the Mac app.
Snap says personal content used with the service will not be used to train its AI models or serve advertisements, and that Snap personnel cannot access it. Those assurances are the company’s claims; the extent of data collection, protection and prediction accuracy has not been independently established, Engadget reported.
