Slots & Daggers expands to consoles as solo developer Friedemann broadens reach
The title, previously released on PC to critical acclaim, is now available on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S, offering a short-form experience with steady meta-progression.

Fantasy-themed roguelike Slots & Daggers has expanded its availability to major console platforms, joining its existing PC release on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. Developed by solo creator Friedemann, the title combines deckbuilding mechanics with slot machine gameplay, providing players with a compact experience that emphasises steady meta-progression over lengthy play sessions.
The game utilises a game-within-a-game perspective, placing the player above a seedy table where an electronic machine serves as the primary interface. During runs, players spin up to five slot machine wheels to match symbols from equipped items, such as daggers or shields. Matching symbols triggers attacks or defensive buffs, with three identical symbols in a row resulting in a critical hit. The loop is designed to be short, with the developer describing the title as a mini roguelike that can be completed, including all 12 achievements, in just under six hours.
Progression is driven by the accumulation of poker chips after each run, which players use to purchase modifiers. These upgrades are represented as physical plugs inserted into the in-game machine, allowing for the addition of wheels or improvements to stats. This system ensures that players can become stronger over multiple runs without requiring excessive time investment, creating a cycle of constant improvement that encourages repeated play.
While the game offers a dopamine-driven experience similar to gambling, it carries no financial risk. The developer notes that the balance between luck and skill is subjective, with some players potentially finding the randomness of the slot mechanics frustrating. Despite this, the title has maintained a strong reputation, having been noted as a favourite by reviewers upon its initial PC release last year.
The expansion to consoles marks a significant step for the indie title, allowing a broader audience to access its unique blend of mechanics. Slots & Daggers is now available on PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S, continuing to attract players seeking a low-key, engaging roguelike experience.
