The US Securities and Exchange Commission has appointed John Moses as the permanent Director of the Office of Investor Education and Assistance. The move formalises a role Moses has held on an acting basis since 2020, following his tenure as Deputy Director within the same office.

Moses joined the SEC staff in 2016, serving as a Managing Executive in the Office of the Chairman before moving to the investor education unit. His appointment comes as the regulator seeks to bolster its efforts to help investors build financial futures and protect against fraud, functions central to the office’s mandate.

SEC Chairman Paul S. Atkins highlighted Moses’ qualifications for the role, noting his effectiveness as a communicator. Atkins stated that Moses brings both enthusiasm and wisdom to the position, possessing the specific skills required to ensure the office serves Americans participating in capital markets.

The Office of Investor Education and Assistance handles tens of thousands of investor contacts annually regarding investment-related questions and concerns. Moses acknowledged the dedication of his colleagues in managing these interactions, emphasising the agency’s ongoing evolution to provide useful tools and information for informed decision-making.

Prior to his regulatory career, Moses worked in the private sector in real estate and operations leadership.
