Conference rivalry intensifies with high-profile matchups featuring top talent and coaching strategies

The 2026 SEC/ACC Women’s Basketball Challenge is set to take place on December 2 and 3, comprising 16 games that will be broadcast across ESPN networks. Specific kick-off times for the fixtures are yet to be announced. The annual inter-conference series serves as a critical early-season benchmark for both leagues, with the ACC looking to rebound from a significant deficit in the 2025 challenge.

In the previous year’s event, the SEC demonstrated clear institutional dominance by securing 13 of the 16 victories. Only Virginia Tech, SMU, and Syracuse managed to pull off wins for the ACC, highlighting the structural disparity that the conference aims to address this season. The upcoming schedule includes a headline Sweet 16 rematch between Notre Dame and Vanderbilt, which will feature star players Hannah Hidalgo and Mikayla Blakes.

Notre Dame enters Hidalgo’s senior season with a focus on maintaining conference representation, while Vanderbilt returns Blakes, who led the nation in scoring last season, alongside Aubrey Galvan. This matchup is viewed as a pivotal test of individual talent and team resilience for both programs as they navigate roster changes.

Other key fixtures include NC State versus Ole Miss, a clash between coaches Wes Moore and Yolett McPhee-McCuin. NC State returns Zoe Brooks and Khamil Pierre, while Ole Miss integrates 10 new players, including Talaysia Cooper and Jada Richard. North Carolina faces LSU, a series where the Tigers hold a 3-0 all-time record, with the Tar Heels adjusting to the presence of top incoming freshman Kate Harpring.

The challenge also features Duke versus South Carolina, where the Blue Devils return Toby Fournier and add Texas transfer Aaliyah Crump against a Gamecocks side that includes Joyce Edwards and Tessa Johnson. Additionally, Louisville and Texas will meet, with coaches Jeff Walz and Vic Schaefer leading teams that have both recently reached the latter stages of the NCAA Tournament. The full schedule also includes Miami at Florida, Georgia at SMU, Stanford at Auburn, Tennessee at Virginia Tech, Clemson at Kentucky, Oklahoma at Syracuse, Wake Forest at Arkansas, Missouri at Florida State, Texas A&M at California, and Georgia Tech at Alabama.
