Seahawks expected to sign Trevon Diggs to one-year deal to shore up secondary
The defending champions are set to add a two-time Pro Bowl cornerback as they address roster gaps left by free agency departures and potential suspension issues.

The Seattle Seahawks are expected to finalise a one-year contract with former Dallas Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs, according to CBS Sports senior reporter Matt Zenitz. The move is designed to reinforce the secondary of the defending Super Bowl champions, who have faced significant roster turnover during the 2026 offseason.
Diggs completed a tryout with Seattle on Tuesday, following a previous session with the Detroit Lions. The signing addresses a weakened defensive backfield after the departures of cornerback Tariq Woolen to the Philadelphia Eagles and safety Coby Bryant to the Chicago Bears. Additionally, the team is navigating uncertainty regarding cornerback Terrion Arnold, a former Detroit Lions first-round pick, who is expected to sign with Seattle but may face an NFL suspension for legal issues arising this offseason.
At 28 years old, Diggs joins the Seahawks as a veteran presence with a history of high performance. Selected in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft by the Cowboys, he led the league with 11 interceptions in 2021, earning his only first-team All-Pro honour. He followed that season with a Pro Bowl selection in 2022, recording three interceptions and 14 passes defended.
However, Diggs' career trajectory was disrupted by consecutive seasons ended by knee surgeries in 2023 and 2024. These injuries coincided with public clashes with Dallas defensive coordinators Mike Zimmer and Matt Eberflus. The Cowboys waived him in Week 17 of the 2024 season after a Christmas Day victory, and he was subsequently claimed by the Green Bay Packers, where he saw limited action.
The addition of Diggs also facilitates a reunion with former teammate DeMarcus Lawrence, a five-time Pro Bowl edge rusher currently with Seattle. The two were teammates in Dallas from 2020 to 2024. The Seahawks' decision to sign Diggs comes as they manage their salary cap, which has been impacted by market-topping extensions for wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba and cornerback Devon Witherspoon.
The contract is reported to be a one-year deal, providing the team with a flexible option to assess Diggs' current capabilities under head coach Mike Macdonald. While the signing is described as imminent, the finalisation of the contract is pending.
