Scheffler Favourite as Bearman Questions Aberg’s Major Resilience Ahead of PGA Championship
World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler enters as the +480 favourite for the 2026 PGA Championship, aiming for a historic back-to-back victory at Aronimink Golf Club.

World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler enters the 2026 PGA Championship as the +480 favourite, targeting a second consecutive title at Aronimink Golf Club in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania. Play is scheduled to begin on Thursday, with Scheffler aiming to become the first player to win back-to-back PGA Championships since Brooks Koepka achieved the feat in 2018 and 2019.
Golf expert David Bearman, who joined SportsLine after a tenure at ESPN, has released his predictions for the tournament, notably fading Ludvig Åberg despite the Swede holding the sixth-lowest odds at +1800. Bearman, who is currently up more than 18 units in 2026 after successful picks at The Players Championship, the RBC Heritage, and the Cadillac Championship, cited Åberg’s previous misses at the PGA Championship in 2024 and 2025 as key factors in his assessment.
“Simply put, I don't trust Aberg with it all on the line on Sunday,” Bearman told SportsLine. He acknowledged Åberg’s potential, noting the 26-year-old may win three or four majors in his career, but emphasised the need for a Sunday victory to secure the first major title. Åberg finished as runner-up at the 2024 Masters but has struggled to advance past the cut in recent PGA Championships.
The field includes other top contenders such as Rory McIlroy at +950, Cameron Young at +1200, Jon Rahm at +1500, and Xander Schauffele at +1600. McIlroy, who completed his career Grand Slam by winning the Masters in 2025 and successfully defended that title in 2026, brings significant major-winning experience to the event.
Bearman has also identified a player with odds higher than 60-1 who possesses “one of the best iron games on Tour” as a best bet, alongside two triple-digit longshots. Specific details of these selections are restricted to the SportsLine platform, where the expert has locked in his full predictions and sleepers for the tournament.
