Scheffler extends dominance with eight-shot win at FedEx St. Jude Championship

Scottie Scheffler opened the PGA Tour playoffs with a commanding performance at the FedEx St. Jude Championship, securing an eight-shot victory in Memphis. The win marks Scheffler’s second title of the 2026 season and earned him a $3.6 million prize, further consolidating his position at the summit of the FedExCup standings with two tournaments remaining on the schedule.

Playing at TPC Southwind, Scheffler posted a final-round 66 to close out the event. His victory came after a season characterised by near-misses, including five second-place finishes since his season-opening triumph in January. The result ends a period where the world’s top-ranked golfer had struggled to convert his consistent high-level play into wins, a trend that had drawn comparisons to a temporary dip in the dominance he displayed in previous years.

Scheffler’s path to victory was not without turbulence. After taking a three-shot lead into Saturday, he entered the final round with just a one-shot advantage. A mishap on the opening nine holes of Sunday, where a chip shot struck a sprinkler head and found the water, reduced his margin to a single stroke. However, Scheffler quickly regained control, sinking a nearly 20-foot birdie putt that extended his lead to six shots.

The American added two more birdies in the closing stages to secure the eight-shot margin. His performance highlighted a significant improvement in his putting, a area that had been a concern in recent weeks. Scheffler made 14 putts of more than 10 feet during the tournament, the highest total in the field, contributing to a final round that effectively ended the competition before the final holes were played.

The victory marks Scheffler’s 21st career PGA Tour win, with 15 of those titles coming in the past three seasons. He becomes only the fifth golfer in the last 40 years to record multiple wins by eight or more strokes in his career. Having finished second in his previous start at the 3M Open, Scheffler now returns to form with a decisive statement at the opening event of the postseason.
