Manning took several heavy hits during the game, including one that dislodged his helmet. Sarkisian’s preference is for the quarterback to rely more on his passing and reduce his running before Texas’s next fixture.
Manning completed 17 of 33 passes for 161 yards and two touchdowns as Texas moved to 3–0. The result concluded the team’s non-conference schedule.
Texas will next face No. 15 Tennessee, which is also 3–0. The Volunteers defeated Kennesaw State by 32 points on Saturday.
The game followed a week in which Manning apologised for laughing at and commenting on a fabricated AI video depicting Sarkisian slapping ESPN reporter Holly Rowe. Rowe said she accepted the apology.
