Samsung unveils Galaxy Z Fold 8, Z Fold 8 Ultra and Z Flip 8 ahead of August launch

Samsung has officially announced the Galaxy Z Fold 8, Z Fold 8 Ultra, and Z Flip 8 at its July 2026 Unpacked event, establishing a launch date of 7 August 2026 for all three devices. The announcement introduces a revised strategy for the foldable portfolio, headlined by a new, shorter variation of the Z Fold 8 alongside an updated Ultra model and a processor upgrade for the clamshell Z Flip 8.

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 enters the market as a distinct, more compact iteration of the brand’s flagship foldables, starting at $1,899.99. It features a 7.6-inch main display and a 5.5-inch exterior screen, dimensions that are noticeably smaller than those of the Ultra variant. Internally, the device is powered by a 4,800mAh battery and offers memory configurations ranging from 12GB to 16GB of RAM, depending on storage capacity.

Imaging capabilities on the standard Z Fold 8 represent a simplification from previous iterations. The device utilises a 50-megapixel main camera system and lacks a telephoto lens entirely, relying instead on dual 50-megapixel rear sensors for primary and ultrawide shots. This contrasts with the Z Fold 8 Ultra, which retains the 200-megapixel camera setup with 3X telephoto optical zoom found in its predecessor.

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, starting at $2,099.99, serves as a direct successor to the Z Fold 7, albeit under a new name. It preserves the 8.0-inch main screen and 6.5-inch cover screen dimensions of the previous generation. The device also incorporates a titanium film designed to minimise the visible crease on the foldable screen, while maintaining the same storage and memory configurations as the standard Fold 8.

In the clamshell segment, the Galaxy Z Flip 8 starts at $1,199.99. While it retains the same battery capacity and camera specifications as the Z Flip 7, it marks a significant hardware shift by switching from the Exynos 2500 processor to the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. Samsung has indicated that the devices will include design updates and AI features, though the core hardware changes are concentrated in the new Fold 8 variant and the Flip’s processor upgrade.
