Tech giant enters competitive credit market with zero-fee card offering up to 5 per cent cash back on ecosystem purchases

Samsung has officially unveiled the Galaxy credit card, a new financial product issued by Barclays, designed to incentivise spending within its technology ecosystem. The card offers a tiered cash-back structure, providing up to five per cent back on eligible purchases made directly from Samsung, three per cent on transactions conducted via Samsung Wallet, two per cent on streaming service payments, and one per cent on all other purchases.

The introduction of the card coincides with Samsung’s upcoming Unpacked event scheduled for July 22, where the company is expected to announce new hardware. This timing positions the credit instrument as a strategic tool for consumers planning to purchase new devices, such as the entry-level Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7, which is priced at $1,500. A purchase of this magnitude would yield a $75 cash reward under the card’s highest tier.

New cardholders are eligible for a $200 cash reward upon spending $2,000 within the first 90 days of account opening. The card also includes a 20 per cent discount on Samsung’s VIP Advantage loyalty and warranty platform. Notably, the product carries no annual fee and no foreign transaction fees, aligning with current consumer preferences for low-cost credit instruments.

The physical card is constructed from recycled steel, while the virtual card is provisioned directly to the user’s Samsung Wallet account. Applications for the card will be available online and at Samsung retail stores starting July 22, the same day the company’s Unpacked presentation begins at 9AM ET.

The launch places Samsung in direct competition with established tech-branded credit cards, including the Apple Card and Amazon’s suite of branded cards. By integrating financial rewards with its hardware and software ecosystem, Samsung aims to deepen customer loyalty and drive sales during its major product launch window.
