Samsung and Google unveil smart glasses with nine-hour battery life and autumn launch
The tech giants have revealed four frame designs and key specifications for their upcoming wearable, though pricing remains undisclosed.
Samsung, in collaboration with Google, Gentle Monster, and Warby Parker, has provided the first in-person preview of its upcoming smart glasses. The devices feature four distinct frame designs, including two boxy black styles from Gentle Monster and two rounded, red-brown frames from Warby Parker. Developed alongside the eyewear brands, the hardware is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon AR1 Gen 1 chip, the same silicon utilised in Meta’s latest smart glasses.
The new wearable offers up to nine hours of battery life on a single charge, supported by an accompanying charging case that provides seven additional full charges. Executive Vice President Jaein Choi, who leads Samsung’s mobile experience division, described the product as a “premium” offering. While the devices are scheduled for release this autumn, Samsung has not yet confirmed a firm launch date or pricing structure.
Hardware specifications include hidden speaker and microphone grilles along the stems, a single button on the right side, and a power switch on the left. A camera and recording LED are mounted on the front of the frames. Choi told Bloomberg that the glasses will prevent recording if they detect the LED has been blocked or obscured, an attempt to address privacy concerns that have previously led to Meta’s devices being branded “pervert glasses.”
The devices will support integration with both Google Gemini and Samsung’s Bixby voice assistants. AI functionalities include message summaries, live translation, navigation guidance, and camera-based analysis or description of captured content. Choi told CNBC that additional frame designs are currently in development, though he declined to provide further details on the timeline for these variants.
Samsung has not yet revealed the exact release date or price for the smart glasses. The company has previously teased the product, revealing the first two designs at its I/O conference in May. The new glasses join Samsung’s broader portfolio of devices, including the recently announced Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Z Flip 8, which are set for an August 2026 launch.
