Giallorossi submit initial €20 million offer for Fenerbahçe defender as club navigates post-Champions League qualification period

AS Roma have emerged as the frontrunners in the signing of Fenerbahçe defender Jayden Oosterwolde, submitting an initial offer of approximately €20 million. According to initial reports from the German news portal Fussball Daten, the Turkish club is seeking a valuation between €30 million and €35 million, creating a substantial gap in negotiations that the Italian side must bridge to finalise the deal.

Oosterwolde, born in 2001, has established himself as a lynchpin of Fenerbahçe’s defence. Last season, the Dutch international made 47 appearances across league and cup competitions, often starting in the lineup. His versatility allows him to operate as a central defender or on the left flank, although his disciplinary record presents a notable statistic: he collected 18 yellow cards during his 47 matches this season.

The transfer activity at Roma is unfolding against a backdrop of significant institutional change. The club recently qualified for the Champions League for the first time in seven years, a milestone that has accelerated their transfer market operations. Fabiano Massara was parted company with the club yesterday, and Tony D’Amico is expected to replace him as sporting director, with the incoming executive likely to oversee the window and potential recruitment strategies.

Oosterwolde brings prior experience in the Italian market, having played for Parma from January 2022 to January 2023 before his move to Turkey for €7 million. This previous stint in Emilia may facilitate a smoother transition back into Serie A, although the proposed fee represents a considerable increase from his original transfer value.

Interest in the defender extends beyond Rome, with several other European clubs monitoring the situation. Reports indicate that Leipzig and Schalke 04 from Germany, Porto and Benfica from Portugal, Lyon from France, and Everton from England are also among the parties interested in securing Oosterwolde’s services.
